Hinged shower screens have been manufactured for many decades; their success mainly dependent on the quality of the hinges. At Hawthorn Shower Screens, the hinged door was first manufactured in the early sixties.
An early development of the frameless screen was the removal of the central vertical sections on the hinged door and fixed panel. Therefore, the door and fixed panel are framed on three sides only; the top, the bottom and one of the verticals. The exposed glass edges centrally give the appearance of “more glass”.
Having used a variety of different hinges over the years, but the loose pin brass hinge and nylon marine hinge have proven to be the longest lasting and aesthetically the most pleasing, although concealed between sections. The door can be made to either open in or out.
